At first glance of the Guerncia, it is very overwhelming. There is a lot
going on that it is a little hard to focus on a single point on the painting.
The simplistic way of painting Picasso uses makes the image complex because of
the overlapping of characters and inanimate objects which is very intriguing
and draws the viewer to the painting. I enjoy the painting and the way it is
painted, from the abstract, unrealistic way the characters drawn are portrayed
to the absurd way he incorporates geometric shapes and figures. Overall it is very
mind bending and objective in how the content of the painting is interpreted. I
particularly enjoy the fact that he specifically uses only blacks, whites and
greys to show the non-expressive, kind of exact and somber feeling across the
whole painting. Through the use of lines and colors he depicts the pain and
misfortune which is being taken place during the Spanish Civil War.
