At first glance of the Guerncia, it is very overwhelming. There is a lot going on that it is a little hard to focus on a single point on the painting. The simplistic way of painting Picasso uses makes the image complex because of the overlapping of characters and inanimate objects which is very intriguing and draws the viewer to the painting. I enjoy the painting and the way it is painted, from the abstract, unrealistic way the characters drawn are portrayed to the absurd way he incorporates geometric shapes and figures. Overall it is very mind bending and objective in how the content of the painting is interpreted. I particularly enjoy the fact that he specifically uses only blacks, whites and greys to show the non-expressive, kind of exact and somber feeling across the whole painting. Through the use of lines and colors he depicts the pain and misfortune which is being taken place during the Spanish Civil War.

Wheatfield with Crows http://jungcurrents.com/the-last-paintings-of-vincent-van-gogh In this painting you see in Van Gogh’s artwork the effects of his schizophrenia and how art in of itself is an expression of emotion and feeling opposed to a simple creation of the mind. While I feel there may be no religious or spiritual significance in this piece of art it does show the deterioration of an artist. What once used to be full, wide and curvaceous strokes are now short, quick and choppy strokes which I feel conveys a specific time stamp of Van Gogh’s life through his art. Seeing the painting you can feel the change in thought processes and motivations for creating such canvases without knowing directly what it felt like to be Vincent van Gogh. Even though the insanity begins to seep through the lines in this painting I do enjoy it and enjoy how it reads like a book.

Throughout my day I am constantly moving, not only do I go to school every morning, but I also work full-time as a server at a near by food chain to try and land running on this track of life. Physical activity is also apart of my daily routine, which weighs heavily on my attempts at a social life. Being of mixed racial backgrounds (African American and Caucasian) I enjoy all music in which I deem good or tasteful. This refers to the likes of hip-hop and r&b to rock and even a little country. I appreciate good music and as the day progresses that is what is playing every second of the way. In any attempts I make at free time I try and spend it with my friends who unfortunately are stuck in the same boat as myself. Being as my day goes by so quickly I still like to find time enjoying the shared moments I get to spend with my mom and younger brother. Simple yet seemingly busy my cultural diet makes for quite the meal to fuel me on this journey of life.
